Step 1 – Find a partner to help you in your dig.

Never set off on an archaeological adventure on your own. It’s dangerous (and a lot more work!). Make sure you have your mom, dad or an older sibling help you out.

Step 2 – Choose your site.

Will you be digging at a local park, your backyard, or on the beach? Choosing the right area is important, because that will help you find the most artifacts.

Step 3 – Make a grid over the site you will be digging.

It is very important that you do not dig outside of the marked area. Digging outside of the area can ruin ancient bones if you accidentally hit them. Pick an area, and stick to it.

Step 4 – Start digging!

You don’t have to be the fastest. In fact, slower is probably best, so that you don’t miss any artifacts.

Step 5 – Analyze what you find.

Did you get any bones on your dig? Or did you just find worms? For a lot of archeologists, this is their favorite part of the adventure.

Do you have what it takes to be an archaeologist? If you do, then grab a parent, grab a shovel and get to work!
